... after graduating from the art institute of dallas, way back in '95, i got my start in the video game industry with a few friends @ 7th level, where i worked on "return to krondor", Gnome, & "dominion: storm over gift 3" [which was later sold to and finished at ionstorm]. after after a few years, things got a bit shaky [auditors were roaming the building taking inventory of equipment earmarked to auction off] and i took part in a bit of an exodus that followed the VP & art director over to ionstorm. while there, working on the sci fi RPG, "anachronox", i also worked with misfit beach, sand box studio, and illustrated the children's book, "firefly fred", on the side. 4 years later i joined rogue entertainment to work on "american mcgee's alice"- after finishing the PC version EA pulled the plug on a PS2 version of the same game, and the company fell apart. luckily i'd proven my worth in the short time i was there, and was asked to join a start up called nerve software, founded by a couple of ex-rogues. a few years later, with a couple of successful "return to castle wolfenstein" projects under my belt, and a year or so on a project that was never able to find it's legs, i was ready for a change of scenery. at that point, i'd put in my time, and was finally able to be a bit more selective about where i went. and with the famous naughty dog at the top of my list, i couldn't say no, when they offered me a job putting together levels for one of my favorite franchises of all time, "jak & daxter" in beautiful santa monica, CA. after four years there, shipping "jak 3", "jak X", and "uncharted: drake's fortune", it was obvious we weren't returning to the light-hearted cartoony games that _made_ the company, so it was time to set sail again. landing in kirkland, WA @ a small upstart, loose cannon studios [compromised largely by creators of another of my favorite series, "sly cooper"], i'm now working with some of the most talented & hilarious artists and programmers i've had the fortune to know, on a game that i can't imagine being more perfect for me as an artist. and best of all, the environment here could not be more conducive & encouraging to my journey back into art! ... patenaude |
